Premise
You went to sleep like normal. Or perhaps, if you're a particularly unfortunate soul, what really happened was closer to you meeting your end in some tragic and unfair manner. You knew you shouldn't have woken up, your mind tells you, but you did. Either way, everything was fine... until it wasn't, because the sound of a cat stirred you. It bid you: open your eyes. A strange, raspy meow that didn't feel real. In the dead of the night, two golden eyes gleamed out of the darkness. Did you ever own a closet? Did you ever sleep in this bed? Did you ever even live in this room? Was your body always this heavy? You pulled back the covers to a small room that seemed largely insignificant. For whatever reason, either way, you looked around. It's wasn't your room. Or your life. Or your closet. Or your cat. The raspy meow struck you again; you heard scratching. There was a closet in the room, a simple, oaken design. The cat continued to meow and claw at it. Your body moved almost without thought. You opened the doors to the closet. And then the cat darted inside, and you followed. Perhaps because you liked cats, perhaps because you're allergic and wanted it out, perhaps because you don't own a cat and don't even know how it got inside. Either way, the moment you stepped into the closet, everything changed. Because instead of it being your closet, you find it's a wooden pathway. And the only way to go is forward, where an odd boy in a cat hood stands with others just like you, looking equally bewildered. Everything feels like it had twisted back into place; it looks normal again. Your body doesn't feel as heavy as it had. Past the cat is a door, and through the door is a plaza where a rabbit with a torn ear stands. It is he who finally gives you any real shred of information: you and the others are now in their World, and he's lost the keys. So you'll have to go get them, diving into the hearts of everyone here because of that pesky cat. It's the only way forward, because you won't be able to leave without first helping the rabbit. And you don't want to stay here forever, do you? You don't want to do it? That's really too bad, the rabbit tells you, his strange red and black eyes set upon yours, making your spine crawl. You're going to do it anyway, he says. He can't move. He shan't move; he cannot be bothered. You will do it. ... Why not? Well, you see... it's because if you don't... And he smiles very mutely, before unlocking one of the many doors in the room ahead for all of you, and thanking you for your assistance with the task. |
